Introduction
If your Sturmey Archer 5 speed rear hub is having trouble with shifting or making noises you may need to adjust it. Follow these instructions for the steps on how to do so.
Step 1
- Shift to Gear 1
- Shift to Gear 5
- Shift to Gear 2
- Examine the two yellow lines on the right side of the hub.
- If the lines are not lined up, continue to the next step.
- If the lines are lined up no adjustment is needed.
- Turn the knob on the shifter where the shift cable exits - circled in the previous section. After 1-2 turns shift to gear 1, then to 5, then back to 2. Then Repeat Step 4.
